The children have loved our recent History topic of 'The Great Fire of London'. They enjoyed exploring London in the past and learning how the fire started, spread and eventually stopped. The children are very confident in sharing their learning from the topic. The Great Fire started in Thomas Farriners Bakery on Pudding Lane on Sunday the 2nd September 1666. The fire spread quickly because the buildings were extremely close and made of wood. It was also very windy which carried the fire. The fire brigade was very different from todays, and needed water from the River Thames which was difficult to transport. The children learnt that we know so much about the fire due to the eyewitness account of Samuel Pepys. The children got very creative in this topic, creating beautiful, fiery artwork and period buildings.
