We have the highest ambition for our pupils to succeed in all they do. In designing a Curriculum that was suited to the needs of our children and school community, it was essential that we consulted our stakeholders as well as identify significant barriers to learning that our children faced in learning. We came up with five FOUNDATIONS for our curriculum - key principles that anchor the school's provision in all aspects of learning and wider school life. These were:

COMMUNICATION

KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

OUTDOOR LEARNING

ASPIRATION

The above foundations will help children overcome their barriers to learning – they will feature in all subjects and are at the heart of what we teach at Bilston CE Primary. Children WILL have high aspirations; develop healthy lifestyles (physically and mentally); learn the value of the outdoor education; communicate effectively and have a good understanding of the World around them.

In meeting the above our School provides a curriculum which is balanced and enriched. It aims also to develop pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We aim to foster the development of skills, interests and attitudes that are appropriate to the intellectual, physical, emotional and social stages of all children, taking into account the individual child’s stage of maturity and ability.

Literacy and Numeracy are taught daily. Science, RE, Music, PE, are taught weekly alongside Technology, Art, History and Geography which are taught through individual topics on a half termly/termly basis. ICT/E-Learning is used as a tool for learning rather than taught in a discrete manner as a separate subject. This is taught as a cross-curricular element of study.

The School Curriculum is enriched through educational visits; visitors coming into school and themed enrichment days. Residential visits are available to several localities for pupils in Years 2, 4 and 6.
